Generally, and frequently, the faster the network connection the shorter the download time. Ethernet/Wi-Fi connections are fastest, 3G the next fastest and EDGE the slowest. If the device is an iPad without cellular or an iPod Touch the only option will be a Wi-Fi connection.
Whilst the maximum bandwidth capacity of the network affects the download duration, this is not always the case; sometimes a 3G connection will be more efficient than a slow, shared public Wi-Fi, say in a coffee shop.
While the style of a magazine's design will affect the data size, and hence the download time, to a certain degree, it's the number of pages which is proportional to the download time. Put simply, a magazine with 120 pages will take about twice the time to download compare to a magazine with 60 pages.
